Unemployment Benefit (New Social Insurance)
Plain English
It's the main Italian unemployment benefit, paid by INPS to employees who lost their job through no fault of their own. You apply online within 68 days of losing your job, and the monthly payment lasts up to about 24 months depending on your contributions.
Why it matters
It\'s often the only income you\'ll have between jobs. Missing the application window forfeits the benefit completely.
Real example
"After his contract ended in Treviso, Aleksandr applied for NASpI through INPS using SPID within a couple of weeks. The first payment arrived about a month later, after he registered as a job seeker."
Common confusion
You usually need to also register as a job seeker (DID) at the centro per l\'impiego or online. Skipping that step can suspend your NASpI payments.
