Atto di nascita

Birth Certificate

It's your official birth certificate, issued by the comune where you were born (or where the birth was registered). The Italian version comes from the stato civile office. Foreign birth certificates usually need translation and either apostille or consular legalisation to be used here.

You\'ll be asked for it in marriage, citizenship, ricongiungimento, and many adoption-related procedures. Italian authorities are strict about it being recent (often less than 6 months old).

"Before applying for Italian citizenship in Catanzaro, Folake had her Nigerian atto di nascita apostilled in Abuja, then translated by a sworn translator in Italy. The full kit was attached to her online application."

Many comuni want a fresh copy, not the one you brought from your home country years ago. Check the validity window before ordering and translating.
