Birth Certificate
Plain English
It's your official birth certificate, issued by the comune where you were born (or where the birth was registered). The Italian version comes from the stato civile office. Foreign birth certificates usually need translation and either apostille or consular legalisation to be used here.
Why it matters
You\'ll be asked for it in marriage, citizenship, ricongiungimento, and many adoption-related procedures. Italian authorities are strict about it being recent (often less than 6 months old).

Common confusion
Many comuni want a fresh copy, not the one you brought from your home country years ago. Check the validity window before ordering and translating.
