National Identification Code (rentals)
Plain English
It's a national identification code for short-term rentals in Italy. Hosts who rent out apartments to tourists must register through the Ministry of Tourism portal, get a CIN, and display it on listings and at the property.
Why it matters
Without a CIN, you can\'t legally advertise a short-term rental on platforms like Airbnb or Booking. Listings without one risk being delisted and the host can be fined.
Real example
"Before relisting her flat in Tropea on a short-term platform, Annika registered it through the BDSR portal, received her CIN, and updated all her listings with the code in plain sight."
Common confusion
The CIN is national. Regional or municipal codes (like CIR or codice regionale) may still apply on top, depending on where the property is. Don\'t assume one replaces the other.
