It's the SUI's authorisation for a family member to apply for a family-reunification visa from abroad. The sponsor in Italy starts the process by filing the application online and attaching housing, income, and family documents.
Without this nulla osta in hand, the relative abroad can't book a family visa appointment. It also kicks off the legal protections that come with the family route.
"After 18 months in Ascoli Piceno, Hamza filed a nulla osta al ricongiungimento for his wife and son in Casablanca. The approval reached the consulate, and his family flew over a few weeks later."
Income and housing requirements are strict. Couples and parents often need to prepare ISEE, payslips, and idoneità alloggiativa well before starting.
