Criminal Record Certificate
Plain English
It's a certificate from the Casellario Giudiziale showing whether you have criminal convictions in Italy. There are different versions (general, civilian, against minors) depending on the use case. You request it from the local Procura or online.
Why it matters
It\'s required for citizenship, some work positions (especially with kids), public job competitions, and adoption procedures. Many of these uses also require an equivalent certificate from your home country, often apostilled.
Real example
"To finalise her citizenship application in Terni, Sajida ordered both the Italian casellario and a Pakistani equivalent from her home authorities, apostilled in Islamabad and translated in Italy."
Common confusion
Different versions exist for different purposes. The certificate for working with minors is more demanding and longer-lived than the standard one, so ask exactly which version you need before paying.
