Work Authorisation
Plain English
It's the work authorisation issued by the SUI inside the Prefettura. An Italian employer needs it to hire a non-EU worker through quota routes, the Blue Card, or other specific channels.
Why it matters
Without the work nulla osta, the Italian consulate abroad won\'t issue the work visa. It\'s the gating document for almost every new non-EU hire.
Real example
"When her hotel in Termoli wanted to hire a chef from Vietnam, the HR team filed a nulla osta al lavoro during the Decreto Flussi click day. Approval came months later and the chef applied for his visa in Hanoi."
Common confusion
A nulla osta isn\'t a visa. The employee still has to attend a visa appointment in their country before they can travel to Italy.
