Gross
Plain English
It means "gross." In salary talk, the lordo is the figure before tax and INPS contributions are taken out. The netto is what actually lands in your bank account.
Why it matters
Italian job offers often quote yearly RAL (retribuzione annua lorda). The number you\'ll actually live on is smaller, so don\'t plan a budget on the lordo alone.
Real example
"During her interview for a job in Treviglio, Nilufar asked for the RAL lordo. She then used an online calculator to estimate the netto across 13 monthly slices."
Common confusion
Lordo vs netto can change a 30,000-euro yearly figure into something closer to 1,700 net per month. Always confirm which one a quote refers to.
