Parental Leave
Plain English
It's parental leave you can take after maternity or paternity leave ends, up to the child\'s 12th birthday. The total length and the share that\'s paid depend on the rules in place, but it\'s usually a partial wage for most of the months and unpaid after that.
Why it matters
It\'s the main tool for taking time off to care for a young child after the initial maternity period. INPS pays the indemnity through your employer, so payments come with your pay slip.
Real example
"When her son turned 1 in Caserta, Naomi requested 3 months of congedo parentale through her HR portal. INPS paid 80% of her salary for the first month and a reduced rate after that."
Common confusion
Each parent has their own slice of leave. It\'s not one shared pool you both eat from. The exact months and percentages have changed several times, so check the latest INPS page before planning.
