It's the tenant in a rental contract. The conduttore (or inquilino) pays rent and uses the property. The landlord (locatore) owns it and grants the right to live there under the contract.
Why it matters
Italian law protects tenants more than many newcomers expect, especially on long-term residential leases. Knowing your conduttore role helps you understand notice periods, repairs, and rent adjustments.
