It\'s a single number that summarises your household\'s economic situation. It takes into account income, assets, savings, mortgages, family size, and disability status. Lower ISEE means access to more discounts and benefits.
Why it matters
School fees, university tuition, nursery places, the Assegno Unico amount, social housing, and many bonuses all depend on your ISEE. Without it, you usually get the highest fee bracket by default.

"Before enrolling her daughter in nursery in Bari, Yasmin asked her CAF for an ISEE. The free 30-minute appointment pulled most data automatically from public records, and her ISEE meant the nursery fee was reduced significantly."
Common confusion
The ISEE certificate is valid only for the calendar year it\'s issued in. You usually have to redo it in January if you want to keep using it for benefits in the new year.
