Student Visa
Plain English
It's the student visa for non-EU citizens enrolled in an Italian higher-education program or recognised course. It\'s a National Visa (Type D) for stays over 90 days.
Why it matters
Without it, a non-EU student can\'t legally start a long study program in Italy. After arrival, the student has 8 days to apply for the matching residence permit.
Real example
"After her Universitaly pre-iscrizione, Anh booked her visa appointment in Hanoi. Her visto per studio was issued in time for her start date in Sondrio."
Common confusion
Short courses under 90 days usually don\'t need a National Visa. A Schengen visa or visa-free entry may be enough, depending on the country and the program length.
