It's the family visa issued to non-EU family members joining a sponsor in Italy through ricongiungimento familiare. The visa is granted by the Italian consulate after the family nulla osta has been approved.
Why it matters
Without it, the family member can\'t legally fly to Italy under the reunification route. Once in Italy, they have 8 days to start the residence-permit process.
Common confusion
The visa\'s validity is tied to the underlying family relationship. Major changes (separation, death) can affect the permit that follows, even if the visa itself was granted.
