Deposito cauzionale

Security Deposit

It's the security deposit you pay to a landlord at the start of a lease, usually up to 3 months\' rent. It\'s held during the contract and returned (with interest in long-term leases) at the end, minus damages or unpaid rent.

It\'s usually the biggest one-off cost when you sign a lease, after the first month\'s rent and the agency fee. Keeping clean records and photos of the flat helps you get it back without arguments later.

"Before signing his lease in Viterbo, Hadi paid 3 months' deposito by bank transfer with \"cauzione\" in the reason field. At the end of his stay, the landlord returned the full amount because the flat was in good shape."

A deposit of more than 3 months\' rent on a residential lease is against the law. If a landlord pushes for more, that\'s a red flag.
