Social Security Contributions
Plain English
It's the social-security contributions paid into INPS, which fund your future pension, sick leave, maternity, and unemployment rights. Employees and employers pay them every month, and the self-employed pay them through Gestione Separata or a professional cassa.
Why it matters
Years and amounts of contributi shape your future pension and access to benefits like NASpI. Gaps in contributions can hurt your retirement and your eligibility for some benefits.
Real example
"After 5 years working in Italy, Daniela checked her INPS estratto conto contributivo from her account in Avellino. The portal showed every month that had been paid in by her employers, plus a few quiet gaps from earlier short contracts."
Common confusion
Your salary on the pay slip is gross of your share of contributi. The employer\'s share is on top, hidden in the cost-to-employer total. Both sides count for your record at INPS.
