Lease Contract Registration

It's the formal step of registering a lease with the Agenzia delle Entrate, usually through Modello RLI. Long-term residential leases must be registered within 30 days of signing.
Why it matters
An unregistered lease is legally fragile and limits your rights as a tenant. Registration also unlocks tenant tax deductions and cedolare secca options for the landlord.
Real example
"After signing his lease in Voghera, Manon's landlord filed Modello RLI within a week and emailed her the registration receipt. She used it to request residenza at the comune."
Common confusion
Both landlord and tenant can be liable for late registration. If the landlord delays, the tenant can file the registration to protect themselves.
