Co-Payment Exemption
Plain English
It's an exemption from the small co-payment (ticket) you usually pay for SSN specialist visits, lab tests, and some other services. Exemptions can be based on income, chronic illness, age, or disability.
Why it matters
Frequent tests for a chronic condition or low household income can mean dozens of ticket payments a year. The exemption removes most of that cost.
Real example
"After her diabetes was certified by her medico di base in Trento, Margarethe asked her ASL for an esenzione ticket. From then on, her routine bloodwork and specialist visits were either free or sharply reduced."
Common confusion
Different exemption codes cover different things. An income-based exemption isn\'t automatically the same as a chronic-illness one. Always check which code is on your tessera or in your FSE.
