Integration Agreement
Plain English
It's a points-based agreement that new non-EU residents sign at the SUI when they first get their permit. You start with 16 points and earn or lose them based on Italian language progress, civic knowledge, kids in school, and respect for the law. After two years, your points are checked.
Why it matters
If you end up with too few points after two years, your permit can be revoked or not renewed. The good news is most people earn enough through everyday life and a basic Italian course.
Real example
"On his first visit to the SUI in Vicenza, Mehdi signed the integration agreement. A few months later he signed up for a free Italian and civics course at the local CPIA, which alone added several points to his balance."
Common confusion
Reaching the points target takes basic effort, not perfection. Showing up to the free language and civics sessions is usually enough on its own.
