Prenota Facile: How to Book Your Questura Appointment Online (2026)

If your residence permit application is one of the types that can't go through the post office, you used to find out the hard way that there was no clean way to book a questura appointment. Long queues before opening, emails into a shared inbox, rules that changed from city to city. That's the part Prenota Facile is meant to fix.

Prenota Facile is the official online booking portal of the Polizia di Stato (the Italian State Police). It's been rolling out questura by questura since 2025, and through 2026 it has become the standard way to get an immigration appointment in a growing list of cities. This guide covers what it actually handles, what still goes through the postal kit, and how to register and book.

What Prenota Facile is

The portal lives at prenotafacile.poliziadistato.it. You pick your questura and service, and the system gives you an appointment with the office address, the date, and the time, plus a booking receipt. Several questure now state that counter access is only allowed with a booking made through it.

Two practical details worth knowing before you start:

• The platform states it can only be used from inside Italy. If you're abroad and trying to book ahead, it won't work.
• The interface is available in Italian, English, Spanish, French, and German.

The rollout has been staged, not national on one date. Bari activated it on May 5, 2025, Belluno on June 1, 2026, Siena on June 22, 2026. So the first step is always the same. Search your city's page on questure.poliziadistato.it and check whether, and since when, Prenota Facile applies to you.

Which applications go through it (and which don't)

Italy now has two main front doors for permit paperwork, and they don't overlap.

The postal kit keeps most of the classic cases. First issuance and renewal of work and study permits, most family permits, and the other types you apply for with the kit postale at a Sportello Amico post office. If your application goes in the yellow-striped envelope, nothing changes for you. Poste Italiane gives you the appointment date itself, printed on the ricevuta (the post-office receipt that proves you applied).

Prenota Facile covers the applications the post office can't take. The exact list is published by each questura and typically runs between 9 and 14 categories. Across the announcements, the recurring ones are:

• Residence cards for family members of EU citizens
• Permits for medical care and for pregnancy
• Permits for assistance of a minor
• First issuance of the electronic permit after a positive decision on international protection
• Renewals, duplicates, and conversions connected to asylum, subsidiary, and special protection
• Travel documents (titoli di viaggio) for refugees and stateless persons
• Temporary protection connected to the Ukraine emergency
• Residence documents for UK citizens covered by the Withdrawal Agreement

Don't assume your case from a list in another city. Turin's questura, for example, routes about 13 categories through Prenota Facile and around 30 through the postal kit. Your questura's own page is the authority for your permit type.

How to register and book

You don't need SPID for this one, which is rare for Italian public digital services. Bari's announcement spells out both routes. You can log in with SPID if you have it, or create a plain account on the portal.

1. Go to prenotafacile.poliziadistato.it and choose register or log in.
2. For a standard account, you enter your personal details. Varese's questura lists name, surname, date of birth, residence address, a valid email address, and a phone number.
3. Confirm the activation link that arrives by email, then log in.
4. Pick your province and the service that matches your application type, and take one of the offered slots.
5. Save the booking receipt. It states the office to go to, the date, and the time.

The account is personal. But you don't have to do it yourself. Bari's announcement states that organisations assisting foreigners, such as reception centres, can also register and book on behalf of foreign citizens, with the questura reviewing those registrations. In practice this is the route a patronato (a free assistance office run by unions and charities) uses too. If the portal defeats you, asking a patronato is a legitimate way through.

And treat the slot seriously. Varese's wording is blunt. Booked users must respect the exact day and time of the appointment.

What happens if you just show up

Increasingly, nothing good. Siena's announcement states that counter access is allowed exclusively with a booking. Some questure keep narrow walk-in windows for genuinely urgent cases. Bari, for instance, handles urgent medical-care permits in person on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and keeps morning hours for asylum matters without an appointment.

That's the pattern to expect. A hard booking rule, with local exceptions for urgency. Which exceptions exist, and on which days, is decided city by city, so check your questura's page rather than relying on what worked for someone in another province.

A current example of how local the details get. In Turin, the immigration office itself is moving. As of August 31, 2026, the office at via Ruffini 11 relocates, per the Torino questura's notice. Your booking receipt tells you which address to go to. Read it, don't assume.

At the counter

Bring the booking receipt, your passport, and the documents your questura lists for your specific application type. The portal booking only reserves your slot. It doesn't replace the paperwork for the issuance itself.

The honest caveats

This is a system mid-rollout, and it shows. As of late August 2026:

• Not every questura uses it yet, and activation dates span more than a year.
• The covered categories differ from city to city.
• Old habits die slowly. Some questure still run email or PEC channels in parallel for specific cases.

None of that makes the portal optional where it's active. If your questura has switched, the queue-at-dawn era is over for the covered categories, and the booking receipt is your way in the door.

Do I need SPID to use Prenota Facile?

No. SPID login is supported, but you can register a normal account with your personal details, email, and phone number. That makes it one of the few Italian public portals a newly arrived person can actually use, since SPID itself is hard to get in your first weeks.

Can someone book the appointment for me?

Yes, within limits. Organisations that assist foreigners can register on the portal and book on behalf of foreign citizens, subject to review by the immigration office. A patronato is the practical version of this for most people. A friend or family member using their own personal account to book for you is not what the system is designed for. Accounts are personal.

My permit renewal goes through the post office. Do I need Prenota Facile?

No. Kit postale applications keep their own track. Poste Italiane assigns your questura appointment when you submit the envelope, and the date is on your receipt. Prenota Facile exists for the categories the postal kit doesn't accept.

Is Prenota Facile available at every questura?
