Pre-Removal Detention Centre
Plain English
It's a closed detention centre where foreign citizens awaiting deportation are held. Stays can last weeks or months while documents are arranged and the removal is organised.
Why it matters
It\'s the most restrictive part of the immigration system. People end up there usually after losing status or after a removal order that hasn\'t been carried out yet.
Common confusion
A CPR is different from a CAS or SAI. CPRs are for forced return, not for asylum seekers or recognised refugees in the reception system.
