It's an on-call contract where you only work when the employer calls you in. Hours, days, and pay depend on each call, with some minimum protections. It's common in tourism, hospitality, and events.
It's flexible for both sides, but you only earn when called. The employer must still register every call and pay contributions for the hours worked.
"During the summer season at a hotel in Riccione, Karim worked on a contratto a chiamata. He was called in for weekends and busy weeks, and stayed quiet during slower periods."
Each call should be communicated through an official channel (with a UniLav notice). If your employer skips the notification, that's a red flag and a potential issue at any inspection.
