Employment Centre / Job Centre
Plain English
It's the public employment centre run by each region. It registers your job-seeker status, runs basic placement and training services, and handles certain unemployment-related formalities.
Why it matters
Some benefits (like NASpI or the Assegno di Inclusione) require you to be registered as a job seeker, and that registration happens through the centro per l\'impiego or the regional online portal.
Real example
"After his fixed-term contract ended in Aosta, Olufemi registered as unemployed at the centro per l'impiego. The DID declaration online unlocked his NASpI claim a couple of weeks later."
Common confusion
Centro per l\'impiego is public. Private agenzie per il lavoro (work agencies) are separate companies. Both can place you in jobs, but only the public centre signs you up as officially unemployed.
