It's the national database that merges every comune\'s anagrafe into a single online registry. With your SPID or CIE, you can download many certificates yourself, for free, without queueing at the town hall.
Why it matters
Need a certificato di residenza, stato di famiglia, or atto di nascita? You can usually pull it from ANPR in minutes instead of waiting weeks for the comune to mail it.

Common confusion
Some certificates are still issued only by the comune, especially translations or apostilled versions. ANPR covers the common ones, but not every single document.
