It's a CIMEA-issued statement that compares a foreign higher-education qualification to the Italian system. It says what level your degree corresponds to (bachelor, master, PhD), but it's not a formal recognition that lets you practice a regulated profession.
Universities, employers, and public authorities often accept it as proof of your degree level for admissions, jobs, and visa applications. It's usually faster and cheaper than full legal recognition.
"To apply for a master's in Lecco, Anh ordered an attestato di comparabilità from CIMEA online for her Vietnamese bachelor. It arrived as a digital PDF within a few weeks and the university accepted it directly."
It compares your degree. It doesn't convert it into an Italian diploma. For regulated professions like medicine or engineering, you usually still need a separate riconoscimento procedure.
